India took stock of the modification process of the 1960 Indus Waters Treaty at a steering committee meeting on Monday, officials said.

The meeting, held under the chairmanship of Pankaj Kumar, secretary in the Ministry of Jal Shakti’s Department of Water Resources, was also attended by foreign secretary V M Kwatra.

In a statement, the Ministry of External Affairs said, “The sixth meeting of the steering committee on matters related to the Indus Waters Treaty of 1960 took place on 17 April 2023. The meeting took stock of the ongoing modification process of the Indus Waters Treaty.”

The statement further said, “Matters related to the ongoing neutral expert proceedings pertaining to the Kishenganga and Ratle hydroelectric projects were also discussed.”

Earlier this year, India had issued a notice to Pakistan for modification of the Indus Waters Treaty. The notice was conveyed through respective commissioners for Indus waters on January 25.
